Vicente Salerno

Violinist and composer (July 18, 1907 – December 30, 1974)

Violinist born in Buenos Aires in 1907.

He soon had his orchestra, which appeared on radio stations.

Later, he joined the orchestras led by Raúl Kaplún, Nicolás D´Alessandro, and Francisco Lauro, and, especially, for over twenty-five years, he was the lead violinist for Ricardo Tanturi.

From his work as composer and author we selected “Qué podrán decir”.

Vicente Gorrese

Pianist, leader and composer (July 17, 1899 – March 27, 1978)

He played piano by ear.

His debut was in 1915 at a kermess that the manufacturers of the Kalisay aperitif had organized on the old Corrientes Street.

When in November 1925, the Orquesta Típica Victor was formed, he replaced its leader Adolfo Carabelli to play the piano; later, he led the aggregation.

He was also the first pianist of the Juan D’Arienzo Orchestra in 1928 and played in the recording sessions for the Electra label.

In 1931, he went to Europe with Francisco Fiorentino.

His oeuvre as a composer began after 1920.

Among his tangos committed to record we can mention “Criolla linda”.

Graciano De Leone

Bandoneonist, leader and composer (July 16, 1890 – June 21, 1945)

This porteño was initially a guitarist. His friend, Eduardo Arolas, persuaded him to pick up the bandoneon.

His beginning with the new instrument was —towards 1910- at the Café del Griego, though, in fact, its name was Café Royal.

Thirty-two numbers of his own have been found.

Many of them were committed to disc.

“Tierra negra” is one of his outstanding numbers.
