Jorge Ortiz

Singer (18 September 1912 – 18 February 1989)

In 1940 he was called by Rodolfo Biagi.

On June 19, 1940, he recorded the tango “Todo te nombra”.

Since then a team that for three years would become one of the most important teams of the 40s was born.

The vocalist became the emblematic voice of the orchestra, featuring his personality and his expressive and melodic style.

The Odeon label succeeded in the market due to the boom achieved by the Biagi-Ortiz team.

Antonio Arcieri

Violinist and composer (9 September 1909 – 5 May 1952)

He started when he was a boy.

He put together the Trío América, quite successful, along with Aquilini and Sureda.

Thereafter, the Orquesta Rostan (a name that combines the surnames Rosich and Ricardo Tanturi).

As composer he wrote, among other tangos “Pinta orillera”.

Benjamín Tagle Lara

Lyricist and composer (23 June 1892 – 9 November 1932)

In 1929 he wrote “Zaraza”, also with his own music, and was awarded the second prize of the Gran Concurso Uruguayo de Tangos del Disco Nacional carried out at the Cine Teatro Cervantes of Montevideo and it was played by the Francisco Canaro Orchestra.

It was sung in France by Sofía Bozán who premiered it in Paris in 1930.

Augusto Gentile

Pianist and composer
(11 September 1891 – 18 March 1932)

His work as tango composer began around 1913. As a player his name is known only after 1918 when he recorded some tangos as piano soloist for the Telephone label. He was musical director of the latter. Thereafter he had the same position at the Electra record company.
