Mimi Mehaouchi and Marcelo Solis, Argentine Tango dancers and teachers

Mimi Mehaouchi

  • I began my journey dancing Tango in 2013, under the training of Marcelo Solis. Today I continue my training with Marcelo, while also assisting him in group and private classes on an as-needed basis. I travel frequently to Buenos Aires and have trained with several Maestros/as and Milongueros/as there, such as Blas Catrenau, Susana Miller, Myriam Pincen, Ana Maria Shapira, Alicia Pons, Osvaldo Nattuci, Ricardo Viqueira, and Enriqueta Kleinman.

  • My interest in Tango has led me to learn more about Argentine history and culture, even daring to explore traditional Argentine knife-fighting (Esgrima criolla) with Jorge Pina. In addition to Tango, I enjoy dancing Argentine folklore (chacarera and samba), as well as other Latin rhythm dances such as salsa, merengue, and cumbia.

  • As Tango requires many virtues, I practice yoga to encourage growth in patience and self-awareness. And to become more attuned to the sense of self in motion with another, I have trained the Brazilian martial art, Capoeira.

  • I am a milonguera who enjoys sharing my passion for Tango. I believe expressing ourselves through dance is essential to life. The main aspects of Tango I focus on during private classes are walking, embrace, and musicality, with the overall goal of preparing students to dance safely and comfortably in milongas.
